Abstract

Introduction: Unhealthy lifestyle is one of the risk factors for many chronic diseases. Inconsistent results of knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) level toward healthy lifestyle have been reported in previous studies, especially among university students. During this pandemic, disseminating e-comic expected to be the easiest way to promote health information without contacting people. Therefore, objective of this study was to investigate the factors associated with KAP toward healthy lifestyle and perception of e-comics in promoting healthy lifestyle among undergraduate students in UPM. Materials and Method: Cross-sectional study was conducted using the random cluster sampling method. Online questionnaire was distributed via Whatsapp among students in selected faculty. Multiple linear regression was used to investigate the factors associated with KAP toward healthy lifestyle and perception of e-comic. Results: Out of 412 students, they had fair level of knowledge [29.00 (6.00)], positive attitude (99.10±13.181) and fair practice (87.16±7.968) toward healthy lifestyle but with good perception [40.00 (14.00)] on e-comic. Five significant factors associated with knowledge, including gender (B=-2.248, 95%CI: -3.496, -0.999, p<0.001), faculty group (B=-2.154, 95%CI: -3.894, -0.415, p=0.015), availability of home internet access (B=-4.125, 95%CI: -6.739, -1.511, p=0.002), internet (B=1.906, 95%CI: 0.296, 3.517, p=0.020) and books (B=1.882, 95%CI: 0.582, 3.182, p=0.005) as sources of health information, while faculty group (B= -7.134, 95%CI: -11.317, -2.952, P=0.001), health professionals (B= -3.362, 95%CI: -6.283,-0.440, p=0.024) and, family and friends (B= 3.345, 95%CI: 0.338, 6.352, p=0.029) as sources of health information associated with attitude, ethnicity (B=3.684, 95%CI: 2.116, 5.252, p<0.001) and faculty group (B=-4.812, 95%CL: -7.375, -2.250, p<0.001) were associated with practice. For perception of e-comic, religion (B=-1.596, 95%CI: -3.182, -0.011, p=0.048) and year of study (B=-3.155, 95%CL: -4.972, -1.337, p=0.001) were significantly associated. Conclusions: Overall, students had fair level of knowledge, positive attitude and fair practice toward healthy lifestyle while they had good perception on e-comic in promoting healthy lifestyle. Associated factors have been identified, therefore several future studies are suggested such as devise appropriate strategies to promote healthy lifestyle in the university, especially non-health faculties in order to improve their KAP toward healthy lifestyle eventually reduce the risk of developing chronic diseases in the future. Keywords: knowledge, attitude, practice, e-comic, healthy lifestyle
