Abstract

Introduction: Uncontrolled hypertension among hypertensive patients is known to be caused by many factors and cause a significant amount of burden towards vascular and renal disorders. Hence, this study was conducted to investigate the association between knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding hypertension among hypertensive patients. Objective: To determine the level of knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding hypertension among hypertensive patients in FMC, HPUPM. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out among 101 hypertensive patients in FMC, HPUPM. By using SPSS version 27.0, descriptive analysis, and Pearson's Chi-Square Test will be used to evaluate the resulting data. The independent variable is the sociodemographic data, level of knowledge and attitude regarding hypertension while the dependent variable is practice regarding hypertension among hypertensive patients. Results: This study found that generally the level of KAP among respondents are high. In addition, there was an association between the level of knowledge and level of attitude with practice, as evidenced by p-value = 0.042 and p-value = 0.000, respectively. The level of knowledge also were found to be significantly associated with employment status evidenced by p-value = 0.008, while the attitude were significantly associated with age (p-value = 0.043). For level of practice regarding hypertension, it was significantly associated with gender (p-value = 0.043), employment status (p-value = 0.012), and years of diagnosed hypertension (p-value = 0.043). Conclusion: This study showed that the knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding hypertension among hypertensive patients in FMC, HPUPM is high. A therapeutic education and an establishment of support groups and patient associations may needed to enhance the attitude among hypertensive patients in order to improve their management of hypertension.
