Abstract

Non-destructive testing or non-destructive testing (NOT) is a wide group of analysis techniques used in science and technology industry to evaluate the properties of a material, component or system without causing damage. The rebound hammer test and ultrasonic pulse velocity test are the nondestructive evaluation that are commonly used in the construction industry. The purpose of the rebound hammer is to test the surface hardness of the concrete structure. The rebound number will be obtained from the rebound hammer. The ultrasonic pulse velocity test is used to test the variability and quality of the concrete structure by determining the pulse velocity. Therefore, this project or research is carried out to develop a correlation graph in determining the concrete· strength for direct transmission and surface transmission method of UPV test. The relationship between rebound numbers and pulse velocity is also discussed for every concrete structure from different locations. The research is carried out by carrying out the rebound hammer and ultrasonic pulse velocity tests on different places. First of all, the construction site is the first place that the tests were undergone. The concrete structure of the site is being evaluated with the rebound hammer and UPV tests. The concrete strength is known for the concrete structure on site. After that, the existing buildings in the faculty of engineering UPM were selected to carry out the tests. Then, the analysis was done by plotting different types of graphs. In the end, the correlation graphs are able to be produced to estimate the concrete strength for UPV method of direct and indirect. The equations are generated by using excel to determine the concrete quality for each locations that have been researched.
