Abstract
The Altum angelfish is a popular ornamental fish across the world. However, there is still a lack of scientific studies regarding the early embryonic developmental stages of this particular species. Thus, the current study reveals the embryonic development of Pterophyllum altum embryos using the natural breeding method, from fertilisation to post-hatching. A pair of Pterophyllum altum successfully spawned naturally under laboratory conditions, and subsequently the embryonic development of these fertilised eggs was observed. The six major stages of embryogenesis studied in this experiment were the zygote, cleavage, blastula, gastrula, segmentation, and larval phases. This study adds significant understanding to the early developmental biology of this species. The data will be useful in determining the potential of this species for aquaculture as well as management, and production of this species.
