Abstract
The Yellow Flame Tree (Peltophorum pterocarpum) is an important urban tree species in urban environment, providing ecosystem services, environmental benefits, and improving landscape aesthetics; however, due to dieback disease the tree becomes a potential hazard to the urban area. This study aims to fill the knowledge gap to help reduce the risk of P.pterocarpum in the urban environment by having objectives to identify dieback disease pathogenic agents associated with yellow flame trees (P. pterocarpum) in the urban environment and to distinguish the symptoms of dieback disease in yellow flame trees in urban environments. The symptoms based on the infected parts are leaf necrosis, branch necrosis, branch dieback, and decay branch. Using visual observation for morphological identification, the characterizations of the colony show similarities to the previous studies of Lasiodiplodia sp. The colony already turns to a darker color which is grey-black. Yet, the young colony is white. There is an abundance of aerial mycelium that covers the surface. The mycelium grows from the center of the agar and then spreads out to cover the surface. Yet, with the Nikon Eclipse E200 compound microscope in observation and measurement with pictures taken with the ImageView microscope camera software cannot identifies the desired pathogenic agent since the PDA contaminated with Rhizopus sp. Phylogenetic tree analysed the pathogenic agents are related to Lasiodiplodia pseudotheobromae. As a conclusion, yellow flame trees suffering dieback disease have compromised tree health that could lead to eventual death of the trees with Lasiodiplodia pseudotheobromae as the pathogenic agent.
