Abstract
A study was conducted to measure the knowledge of rattan furniture among residents while determining external factor that influence consumers in purchasing rattan furniture. Data has been collected using a random sampling method through the questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were used to measure frequency and percentage, and the collected data was analysed using MS Excel. Questionnaires were distributed to 315 respondents online in Taman Bukit Chandan, Kuala Kangsar, Perak. The result from the survey showed the safety of rattan furniture usage, indicating that it poses no health problems for users. Among respondents, 198 individuals answered "Yes," representing 62.86% of the total responses, while 117 respondents answered "No," comprising 37.14% of the total. Next, the survey showed that whether the production of rattan furniture has a minimal impact on the environment. Among respondents, 179 individuals answered "Yes," accounting for 56.83% of the total responses, while 136 respondents answered "No," constituting 43.17% of the total. Moreorver, the result from the survey showed whether the characteristics of being flexible, strong, and light are suitable for producing rattan furniture. Among the respondents, 238 individuals answered "Yes," accounting for an overwhelming majority of 89.94% of the total responses, while 32 respondents answered "No," representing 10.16% of the total. Furthermore, the first factor prioritised by the respondents in purchasing rattan furniture is modernity with a frequency of 156 respondents (45.50%), followed by sosial status for the second factor with 87 respondents (39.68%), environmental safety for the third factor with 40 respondents (38.41%) and the sustainable consumption for the last factor with 32 respondents (37.46%). Thus, with this understanding, rattan furniture manufacturers and retailers can make better decisions about producing rattan furniture based on consumer preferences. This factor is also very important so that information can be conveyed more effectively.
