Abstract
In this research, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) with the incorporation of 0.1 wt% and 0.5 wt% graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) was studied to observe its morphology and mechanical properties as a potential microwave absorbance. PET was fabricated using melt blending and injection moulding method with addition of different composition of GNPs. The phase analysis of X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique proved the presence of GNPs in PET matrix. The surface morphology of the samples was analysed by field emission electron microscope (FESEM) which the good dispersion distribution of GNPs in PET matrix can be seen. Better dispersion distribution can be found in PET-GNPs 0.1 wt% nanocomposite compared to PET-GNPs 0.5 wt% nanocomposites. The result obtained from two-point probe showed that the addition of GNPs in the PET matrix enhances the electrical conductivity of the samples. The electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness and shielding properties of the samples was analysed by using vector network analyser (VNA). It was discovered that PET-GNPs 0.1 wt% have higher shielding effectiveness compared to PET-GNPs 0.5 wt% and all the samples showed dominance in shielding effectiveness due to reflection.
