Abstract

After a long time, the timber industry was involved with the previous revolutionary industry, namely the 1.0 revolution industry, initially later headed to the 2.0 revolution industry. Next is the revolution 3.0 industry where manpower is still widely used to carry out industrial activities, and now a new system has been introduced which is the revolution industry 4.0 (IR 4.0) with various sophistication and technology produced to improve the efficiency and quality of products of each industry. The purpose of this study is to identify the technologies of IR 4.0 used today by furniture manufacturer in Muar, Johor. This study also aims to identify the obstacle faced among furniture manufacturer in implementing IR 4.0. Quantitative methods have been used in data collection. The result found that 34 factories did not implement the IR 4.0. However, there are 30 factories apply some elements and technologies of IR 4.0 in their factories to facilitate the production and they strive to move in that direction. The results of this study can provide knowledge on the level of revolutionary industry used by timber companies in Muar, Johor and suitable for future research. Future study needs to use Expert Sampling which is a type of purposive sampling technique in research to glean knowledge from individuals that have particular expertise. This to make sure the respondents were familiar about IR 4.0 concept and qualify to answer the survey. To improve the outcomes of a study of this nature should be carried out on a large sample size, including all wood manufacturers products manufacturers throughout the country.
