Abstract
The shielding effectiveness of Fe3O4/Cu/PVA polymer composite was studied in this project. The conductive film was synthesized through solution casting method forming flexible shielding film.Material characterization such as XRD, FTIR and SEM was done to further analyzed the sample. XRD revealed characteristics peaks for PVA, Fe3O4 and Cu which verify the absence of external contaminants in the sample. Meanwhile, SEM showed an even dispersion of filler inside the PVA polymer matrix. FTIR did not show significant different since the amount of filler used was too little to cause an impact or shifting of peaks compared to pure PVA sample. The total shielding effectiveness (SET) showed an improvement particularly in sample with high content of Cu such as PVA/Fe3O4 1:2 Cu; where the SET increased from recording an average of 0.66dB for pure PVA to 1.15 dB for PVA/Fe3O4 1:2 Cu. It was also observed that Cu plays much more role in shielding electromagnetic interference than Fe3O4. Lastly, it is found out that SEA is the primary mechanism of shielding compared to SEA and the incorporation of Fe3O4 also does not exclusively increase the shielding effectiveness due to absorption despite being a magnetic material.
