Abstract

Glamping is a type of camping that is more comfortable and luxurious than traditional camping. In recent years, the concept of glamping, which combines glamour and camping, has gained immense popularity as an innovative and luxurious way to experience nature. With more visitors using glamping facilities, maintenance of its facilities is important to ensure visitors’ safety and satisfaction. The objective of this study is to identify visitors’ perceptions of potential risks of facilities at Glamping Wetland Putrajaya. It also obtains visitors’ evaluation of the potential risks and suggestions of immediate actions needed to minimize risks according to the potential risks for each facility. The study was conducted at Glamping Wetland Putrajaya involving 140 glampers who had experienced staying overnight in the facility. Data was collected using a self-reported questionnaire and descriptive analysis was used to describe the data. Results show that many respondents tend to perceive that preparation before glamping activities is not pertinent probably because many of the respondents were first time participating in glamping activities. The facilities identified as high potential risk are bathrooms/toilets (slipping), glamping insect bites (mosquito), uneven walkways (tripping and falling), sitting area and playground (bruises and getting cut) and bicycle (getting accident). On the other hand, other facilities such as rubbish disposal, wildlife attack, bicycle and bicycle lane were rated with low potential risk. Despite more facilities rated with high potential risks, respondents have chosen immediate actions that are easy to implement and require low cost such as regular cleaning of the bathroom, ensuring the floor is always dry, regular maintenance of bedding, prohibiting bringing food into the tents, regular maintenance to rectify the uneven walkway and regular inspections of the bicycles to ensure its functionality. The study has shown the importance of the maintenance of facilities to minimize risks and that effective actions do not necessarily require high costs or complicated actions but suffice simple actions that are effective to minimize risks.
