Abstract
Poor hazard perception is expected to be a major cause of road accident among motorcyclists. This study is conducted to determine the hazard perception level and critical hazard on the road among motorcyclists. Forty-six motorcyclists have been involved in this study and seven hazard video clips are used in this road hazard perception skill assessment. Participants have been split across several groups based on two categories which are accident involvement (accident-involved and accident-free) and riding experience (< 1 year, 1-5 years and > 5 years). The score distribution result reveals that the perception level among motorcyclist is moderate. The perception level for accident-involved motorcyclist is better than accident-free motorcyclist and the perception level among motorcyclist is getting weak as their riding experience is increasing. Besides, the critical hazard found in this study is car stop on the road shoulder or emergency lane. The significant of this study benefits the authorities in order to develop hazard perception training in Malaysia by using the critical hazards in this study can to improve and enhance the hazard perception skills among motorcyclists in Malaysia.
