Abstract
The main objective of this paper is to develop the road hazard database of the study area, Seri Kembangan, Malaysia, which stores information about dangerous locations of the area. This development is important as it is one of the important components of Road Hazard Mapping System which can guide road users to plan their journey and assist the driver to avoid the traffic accident. A total of 73 road hazards had been determined in the study area by using the Street View function of Google Maps. After filtering all the faulty data, they were further classified base on the types of road hazards and also the location. The 73 road hazards consist of 15 pavement condition's hazards, 31 of road sign hazards, 23 road design hazards, and 4 human factors hazards. Among the 73 road hazards, 17 of them are in commercial district, 21 are in neighborhood district, 15 in the school district and 20 in the expressway. It was found that among the four types of road hazards, road design and road sign hazards were the most frequent hazards in the study area. Therefore, the distributions of data for these two types of road hazards were checked for the homogeneity using Chi-square test. The result of the analysis showed that the relation between road sign hazard and the types of road was statistically existed. However, the result also showed that there is no relation between the road types with the road design hazard.
