Abstract
Fifty blood samples were taken from jugular vein of calves of both sexes (3 to 8 months old) and adult females (2 to 4 years old) in order to determine both the haematological values of Kedah/Kelantan (K/K) cattle since little information is available on blood parameters of this breed. The mean values for total RBC, Hb and PCV were, 8.44** and 4.56** (x10 6 /ul), 12.05* and 9-37** (g/dl) and 35-48* and 27.72** (%), respectively. The mean value for MCV were 42.75* and 62.33** (U3 ) while MCHC were 34.25* and 33-76** (%). The mean values of total WBC were 15.02* and 12.84** (X 103/ul). The WBC differential count for neutrophils were 23.88* and 23.32**(%) lymphocytes 70.32* and 60.04** (%), monocytes 2.8* and 4.92** (%), eosinophil 3-72* and 11.8** (%) and basophils 0.12* and 0** (%). The biochemical parameters showed that the adults have higher protein concentration than calves because of the increase in albumin level with age. The SGOT, BUN and creatinine values were similar to other findings in the other breeds. The calcium and inorganic phophorus were lower in the adults compared to other findings because of the influence of nutritional factor and age especially * Values obtained from calves ** Values from adult cattle on phosphorus mobilization. Alkaline phosphatase showed a similar trend as in other findings on other breeds. In comparison to other findings, RBC of adult K/K is lower than the reported values in adult cattle of other breeds. They also have higher leucocytes count compared to other breeds recorded.
