Abstract
A study on voluntary feed intake of dairy Friesian-Local Indian Dairy (LID) crosses under 2 management systems in smallholder dairy farms was undertaken. Feeds and water intakes were recorded daily over a period of 30 dags. The results indicated that cows under free grazing consumed comparatively 11Dre food than those under zero grazing. The average milk production were 3.80 and 2.90 kg/d for cows under zero and free grazing respectively. The forages consumed had high content of crude fiber. The factors affecting voluntary food intake and milk production were discussed.
