Abstract

The study attempts to evaluate the field performances between a manual seeder against a handheld Trans planter in manual planting of sweet corn. In addition, the study also attempts to evaluate the field performance in preparing sweet corn seedlings in a plastic tray for the seedling Trans planter, the growth parameter of sweet corn plant and to recommend design modifications and improvements to be done on the manual seeder and Trans planter. Time motion was taken for operations of preparing the sweet corn seedling in a plastic tray, planting of seeds and seedlings in the test plot for both methods of manual planting and application of fertilizer. In addition, physical properties, which involved the height, width and weight of both sweet corn seeds and seedlings, was taken. In order to accomplish the objective of this study, the results obtained using both manual planting methods were compared. And based on the comparison, results and conclusions were made.
