Abstract
A study to examine the morphology and identification of crab species from several landing sites in Bintulu was conducted for 29 weeks from 17 August 2008 to 8nd March 2009. This study examined the morphology and identification of 20 specimens of local crabs landed at three sites in Bintulu; Bintulu market, Kampung Baru and Tanjung Kidurong. Crab collected were determined for twenty- two morphometric characters, carapace shape, eye position. number of teeth and walking legs, and size. Six species of crabs were identified consisting of Portunus pelagicus. Portunus sanguinolentus from Genus Portunus, Podohthalmus vigil from Genus Podophthalmus, Scylla serrata from Genus Scylla and Charybdis feriatus, Charybdis natator from Genus Charybdis. All six crab species belong to the family Portunidae. Female crab differed from male crab with respect to reproductive organ, size and weight.
