Abstract

Introduction: In order to fulfil the functions of an effective health care system, patients' satisfaction towards health care services plays an important role. Health care providers should put patients' satisfaction as important quality outcomes. It is impossible for health care providers, such as nurses, to perform well in health care services without patients' satisfaction. Problems will occur and these can affect the patients' health status and the health services. Hence, it is vital to know their satisfaction level, including those receiving antenatal care, using the appropriate measurement, so that relevant interventions can be done to improve the quality of services provided for them. Objectives: The general objective is to determine antenatal mothers' satisfaction levels, their factors and their associations at Hospital Melaka. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study, conducted in the antenatal clinic at Hospital Melaka with the participation of 140 pregnant mothers who met the inclusion criteria. Data were collected over three months and analysed using the software Statistical Analysis Package for Social Sciences. Descriptive statistics were used to describe the sample. The chi square test was used to determine associations between categorical variables. P .:s 0.05 was considered as statistically significant. Results: 140 respondents had participated in the study. 70% of the respondents were satisfied with the services provided to them. Satisfaction towards the services in the antenatal clinic were high among Malays (55.7%), age between 20 to 34 years old (38.6%), received primary and secondary education (36.4%), with family income of RMI001 to RM2000 per month, and those who were in the 21 to 36 weeks of pregnancy (51.4%). There was significant association between age (p :'S 0.05) and the level of patients' satisfaction. Conclusion: This study shows that about 30% of the antenatal mothers were not satisfied with the services provided in the antenatal clinic. Health care team need to improve the quality of services in order to achieve the goal of providing excellent health care services to all patients.
