Abstract
Introduction: Environmental health focuses on the linkages between human health and the conditions present in the environment and all of its elements. Rural and urban community experience disparities across a significant number of health status measures and health outcomes include environmental health awareness. The health awareness programs include environmental health awareness programs are also frequently be held in the urban environment compared to rural environment. As more people worldwide live in cities, it is imperative to understand how rural-urban living affects population's environmental health. Objectives: To determine the disparities of environmental health awareness among rural and urban community. Methodology: The questionnaire was distributed among the respondents which covered on sociodemographic and economic background. In addition, there is a Comprehensive Environmental Health Checklist being distributed to the respondents to indicate which categories are most important environmental health problems in their community. Results and Discussion: Median (IQR) of environmental health awareness of urban community was higher [249.50(99.75)] that the median (IQR) of rural community [172.50(30.25)] shows a significant difference between environmental health awareness in urban and rural community [Z= -5.774, p<0.001]. Health awareness of urban was considerably higher that rural. In other word, the fundamental awareness to health for rural residents is lesser as compare to urban residents. 21% of the variation in environmental health awareness in urban community can be explained by education, job status and household income while for rural area, 6.8% of the variation in rural community can be explained by household income Conclusion: This study may conclude that there was a significant difference between environmental health awareness in urban and rural community. The variation in environmental health awareness in urban community can be explained by education, job status and household income while the variation in rural community can be explained by household income.
