Abstract
Most of the equator region in a tropical climate zone experiences hot and humid weather but sometimes heavy rain and thunderstorms which occur stochastically in monsoon season. Sunlight which is the energy source can be harvested approximately 8 hours (on average basis) daily throughout the year which lead to the upgrading of solar PV technology. This project is carried out to test the performance for a new floating PV dryer prototype with flexible PV roofing structures covering the top of the dryer system. The field measurement test was conducted at the Lake Faculty of Engineering, UPM by using the 4-parameters weather station. Temperature profile with RH measurements inside the floating PV dryer compartments as compared to direct-sun drying mechanism is the main contributions of this work. The level of humidity in the dryer can affect the level of dry matter. The number of insect pests and diseases is increased in high humidity conditions. Floating Dryer PV consist of a closed compartment which is partially exposed to the ambient air to reduce the effects of direct and diffuse solar radiation and dust around it. It produces more than 150W convection heat energy by using this clean air system. The field measurement test involves various points of thermocouple and humidity sensor throughout the experiment. Temperature and humidity will be the main elements recorded to analyze the differences under PV panel as compared to natural drying. The photovoltaic drying provides a more efficient way of drying agricultural products.
