Abstract
This work described a study on the effect of normal storage condition for baby milk powders on its physical and flowability charateristics. There are three types of storage condition to store the baby milk powders which are usually being practice by the working parents in their daily life. The first method is baby milk powders tied with rubber band while the second method is baby milk powders stored in air tight plastic container at ambient temperature. Third method is milk powders stored in similar storage as second method but at chiller. The physical properties of the baby milk powders stored under these three methods of storage were studied such as moisture content, density, baby milk flowability (Carr Index, Hausner’s ratio, angle of repose). The environmental effects (relative humidity and temperature) on the milk powders flowability were also investigated. Generally, the value of tapped density is higher than the bulk density and it is impossible if the tapped density is lower than bulk density. The small difference in bulk density and tapped density contribute to the smallest value of the Hausner’s ratio and the Carr Index. The high moisture depicted to high angle of repose. In the end of study, relative humidity of the surrounding does not affect too much in the moisture content and flowability of milk powders but how the milk powders is being stored either using air tight plastic container or packaging itself is the more important factor in influencing the moisture content and the flowability of the baby milk powders. Thus, the method 3 which is the milk powders in air tight plastic container stored in chiller have the best flowability and has been choosing the better ways to store the milk powders. This method can be practice by the working parents who are mostly have difficult to bring on the milk powder and keep safely to ensure the milk in good fresh milk condition.
