Abstract

Introduction: SOHELP DIY is a programme conducted by the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) to aid industries in achieving compliance for legislation related to occupational health; noise regulation, chemical use and also ergonomics. The programme currently in its third phase, still has participants of SOHELP DIY facing problems with the tediousness of filling-up the required checkpoints. Objective: Thus, a systematic approach is needed to better facilitate the process of filling-up the checkpoints where this study aims to develop, test and determine human factors affecting the usability of SOHELP Checkpoints app for users. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted between May to June 2020, where convenience sampling was employed to recruit participants. A total of 71 voluntary occupational safety and health practitioners within Malaysia participated in this study. A mobile application was developed based on SOHELP checkpoints provided on DOSH website and was integrated with a questionnaire to collect socio-demographic information and usability. An adopted Computer System Usability Questionnaire (CSUQ) was presented to the users on the 7th day after the account registration or after participants updated a new checkpoint within the app or exported at least one checkpoint from the mobile app. Result and Discussion: Significant (p<0.05) but weak correlation were found between age and information quality (r =0.28); age and overall usability satisfaction (r = 0.24); education level and interface quality showed inverse but weak correlation (r = -0.24) which were corresponding with previous studies. However, gender and ethnicity showed no correlation with app usability, some consistent with past studies while some other contradicts. Conclusion: The app developed in this study to facilitate SOHELP DIY checkpoints showed promising application with good usability and has room for further improvement. Keywords: Usability, occupational health mobile application, SOHELP DIY
