Abstract
Physical activity level is declining in adults apart from the world getting more advance. Health related problems such as diabetes, hypertension, and cardiac arrest are highly connected to low physical activity level. The decrease trend of low physical activity level is bad as it lead towards more obese population hence increase the percentage of Non-communicable Disease (NCD) . This study was carried out with the aim of identifying the relationship between the sociodemographic background and dietary and supplement intakes of undergraduates of Kolej Sultan Alaeddin Suleiman Shah (KOSASS) of Universiti Putra Malaysia and their physical activity level. This study applied the cross-sectional method as its study design. The researcher used purposive sampling in determining its sampling which involved 104 undergraduate students. The level of involved physical activities was measured based on the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire, meanwhile the elements of socio-demographic background, supplement intake and dietary intake were based on Self-Development Questionnaire, Supplement Intake Questionnaire and 24-Hour Diet Recall Interview, respectively. Approximately, 83% of the undergraduate students in KOSASS have high physical activity level and there were only few percent of the student scores moderate and low physical activity level. The correlation between sleep quality, physical activity and perceived social support and malnutrition risk showed significant positive manner. However, there was no association found between sociodemographic backgrounds with malnutrition risk. It can be concluded that elderly living in care home are at higher risk to have malnutrition, meanwhile malnutrition can be linked to several factors involving sleep quality, physical activity and perceived social support which attribute to the increase of this risk in later life. Leveraging use of knowledge of these factors when giving care to elderly may serve importantly in deterring the chance of malnutrition risk.
