Abstract
Introduction: Definition of safety culture are varied, but generally safety culture is those aspects of company culture that influences attitude and behavior linked to safety risk. It reflected the safety performance of an organization in which employee is devoted to his or her own safety as well the others. However, employee instability also influences the attitude in a form of anxiety, and this reduce the safety performance. Objective: This cross-sectional study aims to determine the relationship between socio-demographical data, safety culture, safety performance and mental health among workers. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted among workers across Malaysia by convenience sampling. A total 124 respondents were participated in this study, and they were required to answer the online questionnaire that consisted of four sections. Then, the data was analyzed by using SPSS 25. Results and Discussion: Most of the respondents was among safety and health staff (73.4%) and majority was aged between 18 – 28 years old (69.4%). The results shows that the safety culture of the respondents was satisfactory with mean of 4.0001 which above the neutral point of 3. Meanwhile, majority of the respondents (73.4%) have excellence safety performance. For the presence of anxiety, most of the participants (81.5%) recorded GAD-7<8 (absence of anxiety). There was no significant association between sociodemographic with mental health. However, there was a significant association between safety performance with mental health (x2 = 9.648, p-value = 0.006). Next, there was a significant association between safety culture with mental health (p-value = 0.023, r-value = 0.204). Conclusion: In conclusion, it is important to ensure a positive safety culture and safety performance to improve workers’ mental health in the workplace.
