Abstract
This study explored the potential on antagonistic bacteria isolated from infected banana plant as biocontrol agents against (BC As). Fusarium wilt caused by Fusarium oxysporum. Out of 10 antagonistic bacteria isolated and screened by dual and mycelial growth test, two isolates namely UPMKB7 and UPMKB9 had potential antagonistic activities. They were antagonistic toward F. oxysporum, with Percentage Inhibition of Radial Growth (PIRO) values of 45.67% and 46.16% respectively. Malformation of hyphae occurred in the presence of both isolates. The hyphae also were shrinking and shrivel. Spore germination test also shows the reduction in spore germinated of F. oxysporum after treated with UPMKB7 and UPMKB9 with the percentage spore germination values of 22.17 and 8.18% compared to the control treatment Therefore, in vitro activities of UPMKB7 and UPMKB9 against F. oxysporum in this study suggested that both of the bacteria can be an effective biological control agent and further studies formulation and application frequency and technique, are essential to maximize the potential of UPMKB7 and UPMKB9 as BCAs against Fusarium wilt of banana.
