Abstract
Bacteria isolated from soil of pepper rhizospherc. stem and root tissues of Piper nigrum were tested for their antagonistic effect against Fusarium oxysporum through in-vitro based on dual culture test. J7rom the ten bacterial isolates selected for the test. nine of them which an: BC!. BC2. BC3. BC4. BC5, BC6, BC7. BC8 and SCIO were identified. Evaluations of the mechanisms of antagonism were based on substrate competition (zone inhibition) and inhibitory effect on spore germination. The study demonstrated effccti,·e biological control by the rhizobactcrial and endophytic bacterial isolates tested. thereby indicating the possibility of application of rhizobactcria and endophytie bacteria for control of soilborne diseases of P. nigrum and also other crops.
