Abstract

Banana is one of the most famous edible fruit in the world which belong to the genus of Musa. The banana plantation have several problems that affect the growth performance and yield production such as infestation by panama disease and nematode problem. This research was conducted to identify the growth performance of banana species and varieties using macro-propagation method to increase the rate of plantlets production in control environment. The samples of banana from two main group of banana which is cultivar and wild banana collected from Belaga and Bintulu area. About 10 samples were analyzed in this study namely Awak, Nipah, Berangan Raja Udang, Kelat Merah, Blood, Acuminata, Campestris and Tebem. The number of shoot, diameter, height, length and width of leaves were done and recorded in tabulated table. Result of the study shows that Merah, Campestris and Tebem have the highest number of shoots produced compare others. In fact, based on data the growth response in term of diameter of stems, height of stems, length of leaves and width of leaves represent by Nipah and Awak species compared to others species which shows varied growth response based on the morphology of species. Based on this study, can be concluded that number of shoots produced, growth response in term of diameter, height and width of leaves varies based on the species.
