Abstract
Introduction: Fluoride is commonly found in certain concentrations in the drinking water which is a major dietary source in human daily life due to its variability in the water content. Participants completed a brief questionnaire about socio-demographic characteristics, evaluation of health benefits and issues, and water consumption choices. Results and Discussion: A total of 240 participants completed the questionnaire giving a response rate of 100%. Of all participants, 137 (57.1%) and 83 (34.6%) have poor knowledge and medium perception regarding fluoride in drinking water respectively. There was a significant association between those with higher education level with knowledge (p=0.02) and perception (p=0.005) where they were more likely to know about fluoride in drinking water. Water fluoridation was perceived as safe (40.1%) and effective (27.7%).
