Abstract
Introduction: Bullying in the workplace can be said to be a phenomenon in the workplace that can negatively impact employees, especially in terms of employees' mental health. Bullying in the workplace can affect a person's daily life, such as disrupting work efficiency and performance. Objectives: This study aims to determine the prevalence of workplace bullying and cyberbullying and its association with mental health problems among teachers. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted among secondary school teachers in Sepang by simple random sampling. A total of 256 respondents participated in this study, and they were required to complete an online questionnaire with five sections. The data was then analysed using SPSS 26. Results and Discussion: The response rate was 87.1%. Majority of respondents aged between 41 to 50 years old (39.1%). 2.3% of the respondents were the victims of workplace bullying meanwhile 3.5% of them were victims of cyberbullying. Respondents with anxiety (GAD-7≥8) were 7.1% while those with depression (PHQ≥9) were 9.0%. There was significant associations between workplace bullying with anxiety (p<0.001, rs= 0.290) and depression (p<0.001, rs=0.282). Cyberbullying had significant association with anxiety (p<0.001, rs=0.238) and depression (p<0.001, rs=0.238). Conclusion: Even though the prevalence of bullying and mental health problems were low among respondents, but this study found a significant association between workplace bullying and cyberbullying with anxiety and depression. Preventative measures could be taken by school authorities to find groups that are more likely to be bullied. Then, they could come up with coping strategies and mentoring programmes to fight bullying. Keywords: workplace bullying, cyberbullying, anxiety, depression, teachers
