Abstract

Introduction: COVID-19 has caused all non-essential services and large gathering to be prohibited due to the fears of spreading COVID-19. School closing has affected millions and caused further gaps in education. Reopening schools need to be prioritised to prevent the drift between generations and those with and without privileges but it needs to be done safely to prevent the loss of life. Effective SOPs should be in place with stringent and strict implementation by the school management with everyone directly or indirectly involved having clear ideas of effective ways to stop the spread of COVID-19 at schools. Objectives The general objective of this research is to identify the determinant factors of knowledge, attitude and practice towards COVID-19 SOP compliance among school managements in Kuala Lumpur. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional study conducted among school management in Kuala Lumpur. The respondents answered a self-administered questionnaire adapted and modified from previous studies and were sampled using multistage sampling method Results and Discussion: Respondents had high scores on knowledge (4.71 ± 0.31), attitude (4.70 ± 0.38), and practice (4.43 ± 0.42) of COVID-19. Only demographic factors significantly different to KAP is race and source of knowledge on COVID-19 (p-value = <0.05). Occupational factors such as current position, experience handling infectious disease programmes, and exposure to infectious disease cases at school were significant at p-value = <0.005. lifestyle factors were not significant for knowledge and attitude, but use of illegal drug was significant at p-value = 0.006. Race, MOE as source of COVID-19 knowledge, experience handling infectious disease programmes, and exposure to dengue fever case at school were significantly associated with practice of COVID-19 SOP compliance. Conclusion: Through this study, levels of knowledge and practice of the school management in Kuala Lumpur were determined to be high with positive attitudes toward COVID-19. Various sociodemographic, occupational and lifestyle factors have significant mean difference with KAP. Knowledge and attitude significantly correlate to practice of COVID-19 SOP compliance.
