Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus type II is a chronic condition that has a substantial influence on the individuals, families, and communities’ life in worldwide. The prevalence of DM is increasing worldwide, and the mortality usually occurs because of the complication of Diabetes Mellitus Type II itself. Therefore, self-management is essential for diabetic patients to prevent the complications. Objective: To identify the Knowledge and Attitude of Diabetes Mellitus Type II and its Practice on Self-Management among the diabetic patient at Primary health care clinic. Methods: A cross-sectional was designed to determine the knowledge and attitude of Diabetes Mellitus Type II and its practice of self-management among diabetic mother at primary healthcare clinic. A convenient sampling method was used to recruit the participant and data were collected by using Self-administered questionnaire. SPSS version 28 was used for data analysis. Results: A total of 65 respondents had participated in this study. The findings in this study showed that (76.9%, n=50) of the respondents had good level of knowledge, (86.2%, n=56) had a high level of attitude and (27.7%, n=18) had good practiced on self-management of diabetes mellitus. The correlation between age and knowledge (r=0.045, p=0.723), attitude (r=-0.091, p=0.471) and practice (r-0.023, p=0.856) were not positively correlated. Educational level significantly showed relationship with knowledge p=<0.001, attitude, p= 0.002 and practice, p=0.008. Resident characteristics has no significant with knowledge, attitude, and practice as p>0.05. Conclusion: This study provides information regarding the knowledge, and attitude of diabetes mellitus Type II and its practice of self-management among diabetic patient at Primary Healthcare clinic. This study found out that there is relationship between knowledge, and practice of self-management as p-value <0.05 and there is also relationship between attitude and practice of self-management as p-value < 0.05.
