Abstract
A balanced diet is a vital component of a successful buffalo performance and productivity. This strategy involves providing adequate nutrients through a combination of pasture and concentrate. Biochemical blood profiles, which IS commonly used as parameters in many researches, is also used in this study because certain metabolites are linked to ruminant nutrition intake, particularly on the type of· feed offered such as pasture and concentrate. Indeed, this blood profiles may represent the animal's response to food as well as act as an indicator for health performances. The objective of this meta-analysis study was to investigate and analyse the effect of forage to concentrate ratio on biochemical blood profile of buffaloes. Following a systematic assessment of the literature, a database of 20 papers was created and used in the meta-analysis. With the acquired data, a statistical analysis was carried out utilising categorical analysis via SAS online statistical software. The manipulated variables in this study are forage to concentration ratio, which is classified into three categories: low, medium, and high. Results from the categorical analysis showed that the forage and concentrate ratio does not affect (p>O.05) on the blood biochemical profile such as glucose, cholesterol, High Density Lipoprotein (HDL), Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL), triglyceride (TG), urea/blood urea nitrogen (BUN), total protein, alanine aminotransferase (AL T) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST). In conclusion, the effects of forage to concentrate ratio on ruminant performance based on biochemical blood profiles are varied, which could be attributable to a variety of factors influencing the buffaloes' biochemical blood profiles such as environmental factors and breed. As a result, further research into its lengthy effects on buffalo health and output is required.
