Abstract
The purpose of this study is to look at the occurrence of dieback disease in Mimusops elengi, also known as the “Pokok Bunga Tanjung”, in urban areas, with the goal of finding the causative fungal agents. Dieback disease, which causes stunted growth, wilting, and necrosis, is a major danger to the life and attractiveness of these trees, which are widely utilised for landscaping in Malaysia. The pathogens responsible are identified as Lasiodiplodia theobromae and Neopestalotiopsis petila by methods such as sample isolation, morphological and genetic identification, and pathogenicity testing. The findings are crucial for establishing management techniques to reduce the disease's effect while also protecting the urban green canopy and guaranteeing ecological stability. The study emphasises the significance of treating plant health in urban forestry, as well as the consequences for environmental quality and biodiversity.
