Abstract
Recreational river is a river that include biodiversity, recreation, and aesthetic value that include man-made development within the river. The status of water quantity and quality in recreational river are very important since it can associate with many health risks. A study was carried out at Pangsun River in Hulu Langat, Selangor. The objective of this study was to determine the status of water quantity and quality in Pangsun River managed area by using JPS River Index (JRI). A number of parameters such as turbidity, total suspended solid (TSS), total dissolved solid (TDS), and stream flow were analysed for each water sample collected. Three sampling stations were set up to represent the upstream which is undisturbed area, area with recreational activities, area with settlement activity, and the downstream of Pangsun River. The samples were taken from July 2023 till August 2023. The water quantity and quality evaluation involved in-situ (at the field) and ex-situ (laboratory) analysis. The water quantity and quality status were determined using JRI and comparisons were made among stations using single factor ANOVA. Result shows that the TDS shows significant different between all stations, while TSS, Turbidity and Water Quantity shows no significant different between all stations. Moreover, result on comparison of JRI classes on all stations found there are no significant different for all stations. The index value for all stations range between 88 and 100. Overall, Pangsun river is classified mostly as class I and class IIA, which means that physically, the hydrological condition is good while the water is clean.
