Abstract

Malaysian forests are rich in biodiversity and the complex interactions among the biotic communities are little known. Employing bioacoustics methods, the study examined the vocalizations of different bird species and feeding guilds to understand their temporal niche in Ayer Hitam Forest Reserve, Selangor. A total of 22 species were recorded over four weeks. The call events of insectivorous birds were higher compared to other feeding guilds; especially in the morning. Frugivorous bird’s call events were significantly higher in the afternoon. The call events analyzed based on sampling week showed that there is a consistency in their vocal activity. The findings underscore the presence of temporal partitioning in avian communities and offer valuable implications for biodiversity monitoring and conservation strategies. This study contributes to the growing field of wildlife conservation, highlighting the use of bioacoustics surveys in ecological research.
