Abstract

Tropical forests, which include a diverse range of plant and animal species, are crucial environments for mammal populations. This thesis employs camera-trapping techniques to conduct a survey of the mammal community within the Angsi Forest Reserve, Negeri Sembilan. Focusing on the importance of mammals in forest ecosystems and the significance of the Central Forest Spine, the study addresses key objectives: quantifying species richness, determining species composition, and assessing site occupancy of mammals in the forest. Deploying camera traps strategically on animal trails, the research reveals the capture of 13 mammal species, with pig-tailed macaques exhibiting the highest abundance. Moreover, the study establishes the significance of the number of trees and mean tree height in influencing the number of images captured. The findings underscore the value of camera trapping as a method and contribute essential insights into mammalian diversity within the Central Forest Spine. The temporal constraints of the study highlight the need for sustained research efforts to enhance our understanding of the intricate relationships between mammalian communities and their forest habitats.
