Abstract
Kampar is a developing town at Perak. The development in the urban area deteriorates the water quality of the river. The sedimentation in the river, input from runoff from the urban area influence the physical quality and quantity status of the river. A study was carried out at Sungai Kampar, Perak. The main purpose of this research was to determine the current water quantity and quality of that river using JPS River Index (JRI). Four parameters were chosen as the indicator of water quantity and quality status. These were Specific Flow (SF), Total Dissolve Solid (TDS), Total Suspended Solid (TSS) and Turbidity. Two sampling stations were established representing the Forest and the Urban area of Sungai Kampar. The samples were taken from March 2023 till August 2023. The water quantity and quality evaluation involved in-situ (at the field) and ex-situ (laboratory) analysis. The water quantity and quality status was determined using JRI and comparisons were made among stations using Paired Sample T-test. Result shows that the TSS, TDS, Turbidity and Water Quantity shows significant different between both stations. Moreover, result on comparison of JRI classes on both stations found there are significant different for both stations. The index value for both station range between 65 and 100. Overall, Kampar River is classified mostly as class I, which means that physically, the hydrological condition is good while the water is clean.
