Abstract
For ages, the furniture industry has been an important component of the global economy, employing millions of people all over the world including Malaysia. The main objective of this research was to figure out the local workforce productivity in Malaysian furniture industry and to determine the reasons for local workforce reluctant to participate in furniture industry. The study was conducted in a limited area that only included Sg Buloh, Selangor furniture manufacturers. This study was using a quantitative approach and questionnaire-based survey where only 30 companies participated in the survey that indicates furniture manufacturer in Sungai Buloh, Selangor. Furthermore, the results obtained conclude that local workers have very low productivity due to the lack of technology and highly skilled workers. This made the reluctance factor of local workers to be high such as no interest and low salary. The implementation of the policy allowed these factor to be reduced and enhancement of education and training to increase participation of local workforce in Malaysian furniture industry.
