Abstract
Wood vinegar, derived from mixed oil palm chips, is an eco-friendly termite-resistant treatment for timber structures. It effectively protects wood against termite infestations, particularly those caused by Coptotermes sp. Kempas and Rubberwood were treated using volatile and non-volatile wood vinegar at dilution 1:1, 2:1, 3:1 and undilute. Termite resistance test was conducted according to AWPA E1 – 2017 standard. Termite mortality, Termite rating, and weight loss of samples were tested and measured. There was no significant difference on durability of Kempas and Rubberwood using volatile and non – volatile. Based on the results, the most effective treatment dilution for both treatment methods is a 2:1 dilution, as determined by the lowest weight loss in the volatile treatment (0.17% for Kempas and 0.17% for Rubberwood) and the non-volatile treatment (0.16% for Kempas and 0.19% for Rubberwood). Further research is recommended on above ground tests to explore the efficacy of wood vinegar derived from oil palm for better simulation at outdoor exposure.
