Abstract

Consumer preferences refer to the choices made by individuals when selecting goods and services. These choices are influenced by various factors. A study was conducted to identify the preferred material for wooden furniture among consumers while also determining the internal factors that influence their purchasing decisions for wooden furniture in Taman Pulai Indah, Johor Bahru, Johor. Data has been collected using a random sampling method through the questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were used to measure frequency and percentage, and the collected data was analyzed using MS Excel. A total of 219 respondents participated in an online survey conducted in Taman Pulai Indah, Johor Bahru, Johor. The results from the survey showed that a total of 32.0% of respondents preferred MDF as a wooden furniture material for interior furniture such as bedroom sets, dining sets, and cabinets. For exterior furniture, the result showed that 39.3% of respondents preferred LVL as a material Furthermore, the first factor prioritized by the respondents in purchasing is the design with 56.6%, followed by price for the second factor 25.6%, and quality for the third factor with 17.8%. The results of this study can be beneficial in improving the furniture industry's comprehension of consumer preferences for wooden furniture materials. This knowledge can aid furniture manufacturers and retailers in making informed decisions about producing both interior and exterior furniture using MDF and LVL as materials. Additionally, the study can provide insights into the role of design in influencing consumer preferences for wooden furniture. This factor is equally important in effectively conveying information.
