Abstract
The sediment and 'kunau' (Meretrix meretrix) samples were collected in Tanjung Kidurong Beach of Bintulu in October 2006. Samples were analyzed for Zn, Pb and Cd using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). The mean concentrations of Zn in the sediment was 27.96 ± 3.28 µgig, Pb with the mean value of 23.57 ± 8.51 µgig and Cd was of 0.92 ± 0.07 µgig. Zn concentration in the flesh of Meretrix meretrix was 64.10 ± 11.91 µgig, Pb with 14.59 ± 7.04 µgig and the last was Cd, with mean value of 0.79 ± 0.25 µgig. Concentration of heavy metal in M. meretrix with 33.00-55.00 mm sizes were as followed: Zn, 68.71 ± 10.55 µgig, Pb with 16.23 ± 7.79 µgig and Cd with 0.71 ± 0.20 µgig; while in M. meretrix with size range of 55.10-80.00 mm, the mean value of Zn was 54.86 ± 8.99 µgig, Pb with 0.93 ± 0.09 µgig and Cd with 11.32 ± 3.74 µgig.
