A total of 100 respondents aged 60 years and above involved in this study (52 male and 48 female) through multistage random sampling. The respondents were interviewed face to face by using structured questionnaire to obtain information on socio-demographic characteristics, physical limitation, social support, oral health and food security status. Next, an oral health factor (physical function) also significantly associated with food insecurity. In conclusion, the food insecurity were decreased when the elderly gain high social support from the family and have a good physical function of the mouth. The high prevalence of food insecurity should be addressed hy various authorities and appropriate intervention programs or activities need to be formulated for those elderly who are at risk. In addition, the development and culturally validated instrument to measure food insecurity among elderly in Malaysia is highly recommended.
