Abstract

Background: Teachers face one the highest demand of any profession that involved movement for their work to deliver the cognitive knowledge to students. Thus. school teachers represented an occupational group that has high risk to get musculoskeletal pain (MSP). However, previous study found the teachers with MSP did not seek treatment to relieve the pain due the lack of awareness about the risk of MSP. The choice of treatment was known as health seeking-behaviour (HSB) which including the process of decision making of person in whom the person has choice to choose any type of treatment to relieve the illness or pain. Objectives: To determine the association factors of HSB among selected school teacher with MSP at Sepang District, Selangor. Methods: Purposive sampling was used in this study. There was two selected school in Sepang Selangor involved in this study which SMK Sg Pelek and SK Taman Putra Perdana. A total of 144 full-time teachers were invited to participate in this study. However, only 120 teachers were involved. Data was collected by using two types of questionnaire which is self-administered questionnaire and Standard Nordiq questionnaire which distributed to the teachers with MSP. The chi-square test was used to measure the associated factors of HSB among teachers with MSP by using SPSS version 22.0. Result: The response rate was 83% (120/144).The study found, most of teachers have experienced with neck (52%) and knee (51%) pain represented to do not seek treatment regarding to ease their MSP (42.5%). The results revealed that certain aspects of psychosocial factors among teachers with MSP significantly associated with HSB. Conclusion: Most of the teachers with MSP preferred not to seek treatment although the pain affected their work and daily activities. Thus, these studies suggest developing and implementing effective strategies such as ergonomic interventions, reasonable job demands and improvement equipment.
