Abstract

Project paper (B.S.(Environmental & Occupational Health)) – Universiti Putra Malaysia, 2014. Introduction: Noise is a common occupational hazard in large number of workplace especially in manufacturing industries. The mechanism of noise generation depends on the particularly operations and equipment such as metal cutting including pressing and shearing. Objective: To determine the relationship between noise exposure with anxiety level and work absenteeism at manufacturing company in Selangor. Instrument & methodology: This cross sectional study investigated noise exposure with anxiety and work absenteeism among workers in manufacturing company in Bangi, Selangor. This study involve 80 production workers that exposed to noise during their working hours randomly selected. Noise exposure was estimated using the Sound Level Meter for environmental noise and Noise Dosimeter for personal noise level. One set questionnaire consist standard questionnaire was used to assess the anxiety level and work absenteeism among respondents. Result: The result showed that psychosocial factor had significant with anxiety level and personal noise level had significant with element in anxiety (fear, p=4.04). Marital status and psychosocial factors had significant correlation with work absenteeism among the respondents. Noise exposure level was not the most significant factors for anxiety and work absenteeism. Conclusion: Only socio-- demographic and psychosocial found significantly contributed to anxiety and work absenteeism instead of noise and work characterization.
