Abstract
The study aims to design and fabricate of multilayer vertical shelf to increase the production rate of Azolla pinnata. The Azolla pinnata is an aquatic plant which belongs to the Azollaceae family and it is a good source of protein and minerals that can replace animal feed for poultry, fish and others animal. There are some problems occurring in the Azolla Pinnata cultivation.VERSMAP is defined as a unique design that has a rectangular shape and known as a designed multilayer vertical shelf with a space in the middle of it. The frame is made out of galvinized iron and the roof is fitted with sunblock black netting. It uses a transparent plastic that supported with a BRC wire net that act as a tray and each layer can support up to 400 litres. Currently, the farmers are cultivating the Azolla pinnata in ponds that produce about 10 kg per 100 square feet for every 10 days and the amount of Azolla pinnata is insufficient for animal feed. Futhermore, it requires a large area to produce higher amounts of Azolla pinnata. The results of Azolla pinnata cultivation from the VERSMAP show that, it can produce 192 kg of Azolla pinnata per 10 days and 576 kg of Azolla pinnata per month. In conclusion, the VERSMAP can increase the amount of Azolla pinnata production rate 4 times compared to the Azolla pinnata cultivation in the pond. Hopefully using VERSMAP for Azolla pinnata cultivation can help the farmer to increase the production rate of Azolla pinnata as animal feed.
