Abstract

Introduction: A well-developed safety culture is regarded as a critical component of good safety performance, especially in terms of reducing accidents. In the literature, however, there is no empirical evidence that connects the sophistication of safety culture with the actual safety performance metric. This study conducted to determine the influences of safety culture elements on safety performance of employees in different industries in Malaysia. Safety is a very difficult task to undertake. Every year, injuries continue to occur, and the number of accidents continues to increase and workplace safety and health is a global problem that affects all companies around the world. Objective: relationship between safety culture and safety performance, among workers in different industries. Methodology: The study was conducted in Malaysia. This is a quantitative cross-sectional study to determine the relationship between safety culture and safety performance, among workers in different industries. The study was conducted with 129 employees. The sampling method used were convenient sampling method. The sampling was conducted via online questionnaire. The raw data obtained from the questionnaires was transferred to the computerized data sheet and all data analysis was run using IBM SPSS statistical software version 22.0. Result and Discussion: The results show that the safety culture of the respondents was a satisfactory with mean of 3.6455 which above the neutral point of 3. Meanwhile, majority of the respondents (76%) have excellence safety performance. There was no significant difference between sociodemographic with safety culture. Furthermore, for sociodemographic with safety performance, only age is significant difference with safety performance. However, there is a positive correlation between safety culture with safety performance (p-value = 0.001,r-0.454). Conclusion: According to the findings, safety culture has significant correlation with safety performance. We can also conclude that sociodemographic factor does not significant with safety culture. It is important to ensure a positive safety culture and safety performance health in the workplace so we work in safe environment.
