Abstract

Field studies were conducted to evaluate the effects of palm oil mill effluent (POME) as an organic fertilizer. This organic fertilizer were mixed with inorganic fertilizer on the growth and yield of Cucumis melo L. Melons were treated with combinations of 20% POME + 80% inorganic fertilizer, 30% POME + 70% inorganic fertilizer and 50% POME + 50% inorganic fertilizer. Melons treated with 100% inorganic fertilizer was used as control plants. Melons were cultivated in individual polybags and combinations of fertilizer were allocated to each plant using fertigation system. Results obtained after 10 weeks of experimental period showed that all treatments have no significant difference on growth of Cucumis melo L as compared to control. However, combination of 30% POME + 70% inorganic fertilizer resulted in higher yield compared with other treatments.
